Have a fun run throughout Atlanta’s very own memory lane!
Atlanta is a state rich with history, and on February 25-26, 2023, the Publix Atlanta Marathon will celebrate everything that makes Atlanta what it is today. Run through some of Atlanta’s most iconic monuments, stadiums, college campuses, and neighborhoods, proving why Atlanta is the Running City of the USA!
The Publix Atlanta Marathon is one of the state’s largest running events of its kind. Each year, approximately 16,000 runners from across the country take to the streets of Atlanta. The race is an out-and-back through the city, beginning at Centennial Park in downtown Atlanta, which is close to CNN’s headquarters. From there, runners will move through the Marietta Street corridor, several downtown streets, and the historic Sweet Auburn district, where Martin Luther King Jr. lived and preached at Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Following the Sweet Auburn district, the course will move through in-town neighborhoods to the Inman Park district, which exemplifies the city’s character with historic architecture and tree-lined streets.
Next up, the course will take runners along a much hillier stretch of the Freedom Parkway near the Jimmy Carter Center. The trail will carry you through Virginia Highland, Piedmont Park, and Georgia Institute of Technology before finally circling back to Centennial Park.
This year’s race is like no other, so get your running game on as the Publix Atlanta Marathon qualifies for the Abbott World Marathon Major Wanda Age Group World Rankings. The Publix Atlanta 5K, on the other hand, will be the USATF Masters 5 KM Championships in 2023.
If you plan to run with your youngsters, don’t worry! You can sign them up for the 5K, 3K, 100M Dash, and 50M Dash. Moreover, they can run various distances and experiment with the Track & Field Zone.
