The Atlanta Fringe Festival is back for another curtain call!
Theater is indeed a sophisticated form of art, and it opens us up to different perspectives that we may not be aware of or have considered. The way that theater examines dialogue, monologue, and character allows us to exercise our empathy muscles. Understanding theater, in other words, helps us understand what it means to be human. This is just what the Atlanta Fringe Festival will bring to the table from June 5 to 11, 2023 as it travels through 7 Stages in Euclid Avenue, Ponce City Market, Neighborhood Church in McLendon Avenue, and Metropolitan Studios!
This jam-packed week will feature 28 artists from across the country and Australia, as well as performances by some of Atlanta's favorite local artists. The performances will include live theater, improv comedy, puppetry, magic, storytelling, and other forms of entertainment. The artists on this year's lineup were chosen through an unjuried lottery - literally drawn out of a hat from a pool of around 100 global submissions - as is festival tradition. Festival artists will be eligible for cash prizes for the best shows in various categories as chosen by the audience, staff, and a panel of Atlanta arts judges.
The Atlanta Fringe Festival will kick off with the Five/5ths of Ghostbusters, a fresh retelling of the classic movie divided into five parts, wherein different groups can showcase their interpretation of the story.
Next up, on June 7, there will be a free preview party featuring every single artist in the lineup performing a three-minute preview of their show, plus special guests and prizes. Dani Herd and Twiggs, Atlanta comedians and Fringe veterans, will host the event.
Atlanta Improvisers Orchestra will take the stage on June 8, as they compose a unique, spur-of-the-moment musical work for the audience. The mainstage and shows will also start showing on this day, running up until June 11!
On June 9 & June 10, you can share a good laugh during the Late Night Showcase and blow off some steam! Your favorite local Atlanta comedians, variety performers, and puppeteers, curated by our friends David Perdue (Comedy Central, 1AM Secret Show) and Beau Brown Productions (the Sci Fi Janitors) will conquer this timeslot.
Did we mention that the Atlanta Fringe Festival is also kid-friendly? Yes, there’s a totally free Kids Fringe for them, where they can enjoy activities and games made just for them.
On June 11, it’s time to celebrate the end of a wild Fringe week with a massive karaoke party and give away bags of cash to our award-winning artists, hosted by Luke Smart Karaoke at Bob & Harriet's Home Bar.
