Our hearts are already racing just thinking about this action-packed day. Are you ready?
If you are looking for a fun-filled event with food, race cars, entertainment, and a charitable purpose - the Madison Avenue Derby has got it all!
The Madison Ave Derby, which began in 2011 as a community project organized by a group of neighbors, has aided many area nonprofits serving the needs of children. The event has raised nearly $250,000 in its first ten years through local business sponsorships, racer participation, and community giving, including $40,000 in 2021 for the Decatur Student Center.
The event features creative race cars, food vendors, and entertainment. It has grown from 20 competitors in 2011 to more than 100 racers in the past few years, with an estimated 1,000 spectators cheering them on and dozens of volunteers working behind the scenes.
The Mad Ave Derby will commence this year on October 15, 2022, at Madison Avenue, Decatur. It will begin at around 11:00 A.M., whereas the concluding awarding ceremony is scheduled at 4:30 P.M. It is open to the public and free for spectators! If you can rally your friends and family, then all the better!
If you wish to join the race, you just have to review the rules and regulations on their website (https://www.madavederby.org/race). Oh, and don't forget - no helmet, no race! There will also be other categories on the derby, such as Most Original, Most Creative, Most Humorous, Best Craftsmanship, Best Theme, and Best Team Spirit!
For first-time Derby attendees, anticipate a parade-style event with spectators on the sidelines. The race begins in Decatur's Oakhurst neighborhood, near the intersection of Bryan Pl and Madison Ave.
One more thing - don't forget your blankets and chairs, so you can relax for the day!
