Come and join as we take one more step towards relieving food insecurity! 

Food insecurity is a major concern in Atlanta, with more than 22% of Atlantans living below the poverty line. In fact, according to Atlanta Community Food Bank statistics, approximately one in every nine Georgians, including one in every eight children, is food insecure. Thankfully, The Atlanta Hawks are once again enlisting the help of the Atlanta community to pack over one million meals for Georgia families facing food insecurity. 

The team's largest community service project pledges to unite the community for a Million Meal Pack event on Saturday, September 9 at the award-winning State Farm Arena. The groups are looking for over 5,000 volunteers to assist in the preparation of one million meals, which will be distributed around the metro Atlanta area with the operational assistance of U.S. Hunger, a hunger relief group with unique programs that assist feed individuals who are food insecure. 

The Hawks and State Farm are encouraging employee and community groups, schools, churches, sororities, fraternities, and local businesses, as well as individuals aged five and up, to register for the event. Those in attendance will be volunteering alongside influencers and notables from sports, entertainment, government, and business throughout a fun-filled day full with music, food, performances, free swag, and other activities ideal for the entire family.

To meet the required number of meals, the food assembly will require six 90-minute meal-packing periods with about 800-1000 participants in each shift. The event's meals will consist of a nutritious, shelf-stable dried Jambalaya mix that serves six servings when prepared.

The Hawks and State Farm have conducted two Million Meal Pack events, the first in 2019 and the second in 2022. At each event, over 5,000 volunteers swarmed the arena, preparing over one million meals for delivery to Atlanta residents via various community food bank groups.

Everyone who completes a volunteer shift will receive a certificate for a pair of free Hawks home games in the future. Following the release of the 2022-23 season schedule, exact game dates will be available. At the outset of their shift, volunteers will also receive an event t-shirt and a dinner.
