MLK Day 5K: Let Freedom Run

“You don’t need to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.”

-Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King Jr. awakened the system with his powerful call for racial justice and equality. After a long time of enduring discrimination, his voice reverberated throughout the nation as he spoke for every person of color. Now, we gather to celebrate his birthday, along with his hard work and perseverance, at the MLK Day 5k Freedom Run.

This day is all about bringing together diverse groups to celebrate Martin Luther King Day with fellowship and fitness in the spirit of sisterhood and brotherhood. This is a one-of-a-kind event where participants can register their school PTA, church, or other organization to receive MLK DAY 5K proceeds. MLK DAY 5k is collaborating with Atlanta-area schools, churches, community organizations, and businesses to use the race as a fundraiser for community-focused initiatives. Each registration from an approved organization will receive $5 back to be used in community efforts of the organization's choosing.

The 5K walk and run will take place on New Peachtree Road. A 3.1-mile drumline will run the length of the FLAT & FAST out-and-back USATF-certified race course and Peachtree Road Race qualifier. This 5K will be unlike any other race you’ve ever attended, that’s for sure - because there will also be a party at 8 A.M., before the race starts at 9 A.M.

The event will be on January 16, 2023 at the First Baptist Church of Doraville on Peach Tree Road.
