The season of Yule is back in full swing, and we could not be more excited to see everything switch back to normal after our lockdown-stricken past. We've finally outgrown the Zoom family celebrations and the 'Wish You Were Here!' cards. Now, we can all be together again, and it's about time we enjoy all the Christmas events in town!
What better way to kick off the festivities than live music, Christmas lights, and some holiday shopping? That's exactly what the Virginia Highland Winterfest has in store this December 9 & 10, 2022! Experience a warm community in a winter wonderland as the whole neighborhood at Virginia Highland shows off its incredible Christmas decorations.
A dazzling Tour of Lights will kickstart the Winterfest on December 9, starting at 5:30 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at Hudson Drive. The whole block will show off their homes, and there will be two bars where you can order drinks. You will receive a commemorative Virginia Highland mug for your sipping pleasures and an event map. Carollers will also be singing your favorite holiday songs, so you can ultimately feel the Yuletide joy! The Tour of Lights is a ticketed event, but kids under 12 enter free.
The next day, December 10, will be jam-packed, so rally your energy as much as possible! It will start with the Jingle Jog, a fun costume run for all ages. It will take place on Lanier Blvd. from 9 to 10 A.M. Runners will jog about two miles and receive a special pair of Winterfest socks as a prize. Before we forget - the Jingle Jog is not a timed event, so you can enjoy your run. We also recommend bringing bells to add more pizzazz to your run!
But wait - the fun doesn't stop there. After the Jingle Jog comes the Holiday Parade, where you can dress up in your best Christmas garb! It will begin at 10 A.M. on Lanier Blvd, with the route starting at the university and ending in Los Angeles. Prepare to queue early to see your favorite holiday characters, listen to music, and much more! Families and individuals can participate in the parade for $25, while businesses can join for $50.
Next up, the core of Winterfest: the Artist Market! Running from 11 A.M. to 6 P.M., the holiday market will feature products from over 50 local artisanal vendors. Whether you're looking for art, jewelry, candles, clothing, cleaning supplies, plants, or home goods, there's everything for everyone's taste - perfect for Christmas gifts.
There will also be a Kid's Corner for the whole family! There will be a bounce house, face painting, crafts, and other activities from 11 A.M. to 4 P.M. Adventures in the Kids Corner cost $5 per activity or $20 for a day pass.
