4th of July

Time really does fly - it’s like a few hours ago we were all rushing to the beach to enjoy summer, and now we’re counting the days to the 4th of July. But we are not complaining at all, because this day is a historical and bountiful one. Shall we take a little history lesson to commemorate the 4th of July?

Independence Day, Fourth of July, or July 4th - whichever you are more accustomed to - is the national day to celebrate nationhood in the United States of America.Although it has been a public holiday in the US since 1941, Independence Day celebrations have a long history dating back to the American Revolution in the 18th century. The Declaration of Independence, a significant document written by Thomas Jefferson, was adopted by representatives from the 13 colonies two days after the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence on July 2, 1776.

Since 1776, July 4th has been observed as the beginning of American freedom, and celebrations have included everything from fireworks, parades, and concerts to more laid-back family get-togethers and barbecues.

Speaking of parades, fireworks, and family get-togethers, we are letting you in on the best one. Clear your calendars and start planning for this one - the Pied Piper Parade, Concert, and Fireworks on the 4th of July!

Come through downtown Decatur dressed in red, white, and blue, and don’t forget to bring along friends and family, ride a bike, stroll, or skate in this neighborhood parade. Neighborhoods and groups are urged to construct floats and take part in the festivities as well.

The festivities will begin with the Pied Piper Parade that will pass through Decatur. Lineup begins at 5:30 P.M., at 308 Clairemont Avenue, the First Baptist Church of Decatur. Vehicles should line up in the parking lot, and pedestrians should congregate on the lawn.

Plus, enjoy the Callanwolde Concert Band's Concert on the Square at the Community Bandstand. Concert kicks off at around 7:00 P.M.

The night will be sealed off with a fantastic fireworks display, which will start at around 9:00 P.M. The audience is invited to view the 15-20 minute display, which will begin at the top of the DeKalb County Parking Deck, in a secure location away from other people. Streets that fall under the fall-out zone will be closed, so take note!

Don’t worry, this festival is FREE FOR EVERYONE! All you need to do is bring your family and friends, and everything is ready for you.
