Time really does fly - who knew that it would be Juneteenth, once again? It is another day for celebration, but before all that, let’s take a quick history lesson first.
The emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States is commemorated on Juneteenth. The term "Juneteenth" is a combination of two words: "June" and "nineteenth," and it is thought to be the country's oldest African-American festival, with annual celebrations on June 19th dating back to 1866 in various sections of the country. Many people use the day to commemorate the abolition of slavery as well as to celebrate African-American culture.
Juneteenth is now a state holiday in Georgia, and this festival is brought to you by the National Juneteenth Observance Foundation. This represents the whole state of Georgia, so get ready to meet a lot of awesome people and celebrate this day with them! Everyone is invited and welcome here to join the fun as we commemorate this milestone in Black history.
To be held at Centennial Olympic Park (265 Park Ave W NW, Atlanta 30313), come ready and bring your cameras, foldable chairs, picnic mats, and all your loved ones.
